This workshop draws on research that has uncovered the exigency for instructors across the disciplines to teach reading in their courses. Participants will learn how students’ reading habits, prior knowledge, and familiarity with disciplinary genres and formats support students’ engagement with reading complex course texts (e.g. scholarly articles or textbooks). Participants will get a chance to design reading goals for an assigned reading and consider ways to teach students how to read in the discipline. The workshop will offer three reading strategies to choose from to apply in their courses.
