Study Abroad in Kenya with the College of Information at the University of Maryland Winter of 2027

In Winter 2027, the College of Information at the University of Maryland will offer a study abroad program to Kenya that will explore the intersections of digital literacy, information and communication technologies for development (ICT4D), and social transformation in Kenya. Through immersive field learning, students will work with libraries, schools, community organizations, and higher education institutions to explore how access to digital tools and skills shapes equity, learning, and participation. The course will focus on interdisciplinary perspectives from information science, education, library science, and human-computer interaction, and will examine how digital inclusion efforts operate in a real-world setting. Students will develop critical, reflective and culturally grounded understandings of how digital literacy can transform learning environments and contribute to building a more just connected future. The program emphasizes experiential learning through direct engagement with Kenyan partners and initiatives.
