Wanted-
A History/Library Science major intern to continue to organize our rich local history collection, compose and post articles based on various artifacts from our collection and respond to researchers inquires.
Location- The College Point Cultural Center and Museum at the Poppenhusen Institute 114-04 14th Road College Point, NY 11356
Our history – The institute was built in 1868 to serve the area as town hall. It housed a library, bank, a courtroom, bank , singing sociétés, , a sheriff’s office (two cells remain today) and the First Free Kindergarten in the United stated which was established here on July 1st 1870. The institute was designated a NYC Landmark in 1970 and is included on both the state and national register of historic places.
Today we serve northern Queens as a cultural, educational center and museum.
