Digital Navigator – Hamden Public Library
Increase digital inclusivity and resilience with the Hamden Public Library! Our Digital Navigators are community based and community oriented in order to help Hamden residents when and where they need help. We address three digital barriers: access to a device, development of technology skills, and access to affordable internet. Currently we need a part-time digital navigator [up to 20 hours a week] who has a degree of flexibility to work evenings and weekends. We pay $25 a hour. This is a grant funded position that we anticipate will last at least twelve months.
Overview: Digital navigators provide assistance to individuals or small groups, or specific eligible group(s) who need secure affordable home internet service, affordable internet-capable devices, and/or coaching in digital skills. This assistance is provided primarily in-person, but may be on phone or virtually.
Essential Duties: Receive, return, or initiate contact with client’s seeking assistance or identified by a partnering organization for assistance; tutor/coach individuals and/or groups on technological skills; provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for individuals of all; protect all personal identifying information; engage in outreach through community placements with partnering organizations; act as a resource for further development of other literacy skills.

You demonstrate a positive attitude and cultural humility. You have a sense of humor, a spirit of curiosity, and are able to navigate stressful moments. And, finally, you understand that computers are a necessity of life and embrace technology as a tool to improve a person’s well-being and economic prosperity.
Minimum requirements will be considered: A high school diploma or equivalent; two years of public customer service experience; and coaching, teaching, or counseling experience.
Minimum requirements preferred, not required: Two years of technology support or training experience (preferred, not required); bilingual in Spanish; experience working with housing challenge people, low-income populations, immigrants, refugees, or justice-involved people.
