NYC Health + Hospitals curates the largest public art collection in New York City. We are committed to preserving more than 4,000 works of art and making them accessible to the public. Integral to the healing environment, the artwork appears throughout NYC Health + Hospitals’ 11 acute care hospitals, five nursing homes, six diagnostic and treatment centers, and more than 70 community-based primary care sites. The art collection also reflects a commitment to supporting the international and local arts communities, as well as fostering an environment that encourages engagement and dialogue with diverse voices.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Collection and Archivist Intern position includes an interest in fine art with an emphasis on collections management, archiving, and/or research. The Collections and Archivist Interns at NYC Health + Hospitals will assist with digitizing collections and incorporating images into collections database, re-housing collections, general object research, object care and maintenance, and cataloguing and processing art objects. This includes familiarizing yourself with the collection’s imagery and projects, sorting, labeling and organizing work, as well as assisting with database cleanup, such as completing preexisting records and conducting quality control on file names, translations, and attachments.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:

* Digitization of artwork accessioned by the collection, including ephemera; photographs of works, condition reports, insurance records, and other pertinent documentation

*Work with the Director of Art Collections on the database, standardize and supervise data entry consistent with city guidelines and industry best practices

* Input CMS related content to Bloomberg Connects Platform

Tasks as needed by Arts in Medicine Department

*Assignment will be 14 hours per week for 6 months*

Minimum Qualifications

Students entering graduate or professional studies (beyond a Bachelors degree) and subsequent years of study.

Department Preferences

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Passion for visual art and art history

Strong written and verbal communications skills

Awareness of culturally responsive collections management practices

Salary Range: $15-$25 per/hour
