Free Webinar: Book Challenges and Censorship -June 9, 2023

The next free webinar hosted by the Special Library Association Academic & Education Community and ACRL’s EBSS Education Committee will occur at 1:30pm EST on June 9. It will feature Library Dean Julie Garrison, who will lead a conversation on book challenges and censorship.

Book challenges and censorship are not solely K–12 school or public library issues. What happens in our local schools, libraries, and communities has implications for our colleges and universities, along with the wellbeing and intellectual curiosity of our future students. During this conversational webinar, Julie Garrison will share an overview of the current landscape and share suggestions for how to support intellectual freedom within your own community.

Julie Garrison is the Dean of Libraries at Western Michigan University. She has published on library leadership and several aspects of library operations over the course of her 24-year career. She is an active member in ACRL; currently serving as ACRL Past President. Julie earned a BA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and her MLIS from The University of California, Los Angeles.
