Summer 2022 House Museum Internship -Ticonderoga, NY

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The Ticonderoga Historical Society has a position available for a graduate intern in public history, museum studies or a related field for summer 2022.  Please note that the Ticonderoga Historical Society is not affiliated with the Fort Ticonderoga Historic Site.

The Ticonderoga Historical Society is housed within the Hancock House, a four-story historic house museum, open to the public.  The museum houses a collection of approximately 4,000 artifacts, 7,000 books and manuscripts, and other original materials relating to the history of the Lake Champlain Basin Region.  In addition to its exhibit space, the Historical Society engages in an active plan of community outreach, programs and lectures.

This internship allows the intern to work a rotation within all areas of the museum – visitor services, volunteers, exhibits, programs, conservation and the business end of the museum (budgeting, non-profit compliance and board relations).  It is intended to be meaningful for both parties and serve as a learning experience for both the intern and the institution.

The internship curriculum is intended to be a 10-week summer program (24 hours per week), with some flexibility regarding start/end date.

A stipend of $5,000 will be paid.  Please note that this is paid as a salary, so taxes will be deducted from the amount.  Housing assistance is available in an apartment near the museum.

For consideration, please submit a letter of interest and resume/CV via e-mail to:  [email protected].
