Music Library Students and Emerging Professionals

From an email:

Hi!
I am the Membership Officer for the Music Library Students and Emerging Professionals group (MLStEP). We are currently running our membership drive for MLStEP, and I would like to extend the opportunity to students who are interested in music and/or performing arts librarianship to join our organization and get involved!

MLStEP is a part of the Music Library Association (MLA), and is sponsored by the MLA Career Development and Services Committee. As an organization, we provide a chance for students and emerging professionals to network and learn from one another, both by social gatherings at national and chapter MLA meetings and through the dissemination of information about internships, jobs, grants, and other applicable opportunities of interest via our email list and social media accounts. Membership in MLStEP provides a chance for professional development by serving in leadership positions on the MLStEP board, or as MLA chapter liaisons. We welcome all, and strive for diversity amongst our general membership and leadership.

Previously, we were known as the Music Library Student Group (MLSG), but in the last few years we have restructured to include emerging professionals. The MLStEP officers hope that by having an organization for both students and emerging professionals interested in or involved with music and performing arts librarianship, it will provide the opportunity for students to build connections with their colleagues who are in their first few years in the field, and that these links will lead to collaborations that will benefit all of us.

If you are studying or interested in music and/or performing librarianship, we hope that you will join us! Joining is easy—simply fill out the Google form here, and you will be added to our membership roster and our email list. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Best,
Yuri Shimoda
