Dream, Discover, Do at Shreve Memorial Library!
If you’re interested in managing both the collection and the acquisitions department of a public library system that is beloved in its community, Shreve Memorial Library needs you! We’re seeking an experienced Collection Development Librarian to serve as Acquisitions Supervisor. The Acquisitions Supervisor, together with the four full-time staff they supervise, is responsible for ensuring both the physical and electronic collections of a 21-building library system with two mobile library vehicles meet the needs of a diverse population in northwestern Louisiana. Under the direction of an Area Manager and the Associate Director for Support Services, this is very responsible library work, which involves the application of professional library techniques and procedures to the operation of an important library department housed in our newly-renovated Support Services Center.
The library system completed a five year strategic plan last year and is moving forward with exciting new ventures. New programming, outreach and community partnership opportunities abound including online story times, coding and robotics classes, participation in the local Mardi Gras parades, and partnering with the local Food Bank to offer after school and summer feeding programs for children. The first Annual Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival was held May 5, 2018 and the 7th Annual SML Author Fair will be on May 19. All of these activities require the support of a robust, diverse library collection. Additionally, all students in Caddo Parish schools were issued virtual library cards this past October to ensure access for all students, and we’re looking forward to the changes this will mean in our collection development strategies.
Shreve Memorial Library serves approximately 255,000 citizens of Caddo Parish with a dedicated staff and a $16.8 million annual operating budget of which $1.52 million is devoted to materials purchasing. The city of Shreveport and the parish of Caddo have many venues with which to experience history, music, art, theater, and more. Shreveport is home to college football’s Independence Bowl, the Gardens of the American Rose Center, the Red River Revel, one of the nation’s largest farmers’ markets, six Mardi Gras parades, and Prize Fest, a celebration of the best in film, food, and music.
