Title: Temporary Reference Librarian (Part-Time)

Position Description: The Diamond Law Library at Columbia University has an opening for a Temporary Reference Librarian (Part-Time, up to approximately 20 hours/week) to provide general and in-depth reference service in all areas of law (including American, international, and foreign law) to faculty, students, and others at the Law School Library during a parental leave period between approximately May 1, 2018 and November 30, 2018. Actual daily schedule during that time period can be either fixed or variable, but shifts will occur between the hours of 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM, and will be arranged in advance after consultation with the Head of Public Services.

Candidates should have familiarity with legal resources, legal research, and law libraries. Some progress toward a JD degree or an MLIS degree (or equivalents) is required; a completed JD degree and/or MLIS degree (or equivalents) is preferred.

Minimum Degree Required:
1) Bachelor’s degree
2) JD and/or MLIS (or equivalents) or progress toward either

Minimum Qualifications: All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position.
1) Extensive experience with use of legal and non-legal research tools;
2) Excellent communication skills;
3) Strong service orientation and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
1) JD or LLM or equivalent
2) MLS or equivalent
