SLA Annual Conference Travel Award -submission deadline: April 30, 2016

From an email:

Dear Dr. Vorbach,

We hope the Spring semester is going well for you. We are contacting you because the Special Library Association of New York (SLA NY) is soliciting the nomination of a student to receive a travel award to the SLA Annual Conference (June 12-14 in Philadelphia). We humbly request that you or another member of the St. John’s library education team provide the name and contact information of a student you feel would benefit from attending the SLA Annual Conference. We ask that you send this information by May 1st. To nominate a student, please send their name and contact email to this address (slanyscholar@gmail.com). You do not need to provide a letter of recommendation. Once selected, we will reach out to the student directly.

SLA NY has set aside $275 for the award. This will cover the registration fee for a student ($225) and, if they are not a member of SLA NY, that fee as well ($50). If you have more than one student you’d like to nominate, we will ask the candidates to write a short (200-250 word) description on why they would like to attend the conference and make a final selection.

The selected student will be asked to participate in social media content creation for the SLA NY Twitter and Facebook accounts by crafting tweets and taking snapshots during the conference. They will also be asked to contribute a 1,000 word article about their experience to our chapter publication, Bridge to Excellence (aka, B2E).

If there are any questions, feel free to contact the SLA NY Conference Committee at slanyscholar@gmail.com.

Sincerely,
SLA NY Conference Committee

(Daniel Barron, Sarah Davis, Megan De Armond, Eric Dillalogue, Hannah Sistrunk)

NOTE: DLIS will reimburse up to $300 in travel/lodging expenses for the selected student. Interested students must submit their name to Dr. Vorbach (mailto: vorbachj@stjohns.edu) no later than 12pm on April 30, 2016.
